We don't condone the defacement of signs or property. Graffiti is a blight in Kailua. But I confess the above modification of the "Stop" sign did make me smile. The words below it were removed a couple of weeks ago. However, take a look at all those signs in the background on the corner of L'Orange Place and Kalaheo Avenue.
What's more offensive? The "Stop Blocking Beach Access" sign -- or all those ugly "Keep Out" type signs that say PRIVATE PROPERTY, NO TRESPASSING and NO BEACH ACCESS, which have become a visual blight throughout the islands.

Ya know, richfigel….in the old days, people used to respect other people's property. That's why so many private easements and undeveloped lots were left open to the public. I know…my family’s been here since the mid-1800s. I seen a lot change in my 60 years and I don’t have a beach lot either! But nowadays there are so many who abuse the privilege of access. They make noise, leave their trash, do drugs and alcohol and worse. That's the only reason we see those signs. All of that behavior is obviously illegal and the police don't seem to be able to prevent it. The property owners are merely trying to defend themselves the only way they can from people who ruin it all for everybody. Why don't you and your blog also demand that beachgoers respect other people’s rights and property? It might have more impact on reopening access, removing visually offensive signage, and maybe even defuse somewhat this highly charged issue. Plus, you'd be in a morally defensible position. At this point, you're not.
